Contra Costa Superior Court’s
Serving on a defense appellate panel for the Contra Costa Superior Court is an excellent way for attorneys to provide access to justice for the low-income community and gain valuable appellate law experience.
The Superior Court is in need of attorneys who are willing to represent indigent criminal defendants in misdemeanor appeals.
Do You Qualify?
Interested applicants must be attorneys in good standing with the State Bar of California and have strong research and writing skills and an understanding of basic criminal law and procedure.
Residency in Contra Costa County is not required.
You do need to be available on the first Friday of the month for oral argument.
What Is the Compensation?
This panel represents indigent defendants in misdemeanor appeals.
Attorneys on the panel are compensated at a rate of $65 per hour for out-of-court work, and $120 for court appearances.
Attorneys are paid for all work on a case at the conclusion of that case.
