Lawyer's Antidote to Self-Destructive Habits: Avoiding Substance and Other Abuses - Part 5 of the 2014 Law Practice Management Series
Tuesday, September 16, 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
Event provided by CCCBA
Jeena Cho—JC Law Group PC
As lawyers, we’re constant witnesses to suffering. We witness suffering of our clients, and others which can lead to suffering in ourselves. The conflict and adversarial nature of law combined with lack of education around triggers that can lead to mental illness or tools for coping with the stressors of our profession can lead lawyers to engage in substance abuse. It’s no wonder that lawyers engage in substance abuse, suffer from depression and suicide at an alarming high rate.
This MCLE will provide an overview and understanding of the causes and treatment of depression, as well as addiction to alcohol and drugs in a non-threatening way that utilizes lawyers’ own experiences with addictive patterns. The root causes of addictive behavior, including neurobiology and triggers will be discussed.
Program will take place in Room S312
The Contra Costa County Bar Association certifies that this activity has been approved for 1.5 hours of Competency Issues MCLE credit by the State Bar of California, Provider #393.
** Please note that 'Competency Issues' has replaced the former 'Substance Abuse' MCLE requirement.
