How Lawyers Can Help

CCCBA recognizes the important work of our trusted Bay Area legal service providers. Volunteers and donations are needed now, perhaps more than ever before.

California Disaster Legal Services – Disaster Legal Assistance

DLAC is a coalition of organizations and law firms in Northern California working together to offer free legal services to the communities in the aftermath of  natural disasters.  Survivors of disasters such as wildfires face a wide variety of legal and financial needs ranging from insurance claim assistance to requests for government programs such as FEMA assistance.

Why our neighbors need your help:

Survivors of natural disasters face a wide array of overwhelming legal problems, all hitting them at once.  “Do I have to pay the rent if my apartment is uninhabitable, or make car payments if the car is destroyed?  FEMA denied my request for benefits and I need help appealing it.  My insurance company keeps asking me for more documents.”  These problems, and more, are legal problems and have legal answers.  Be a part of the answer.

Volunteers Needed to Help First Responders

The Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (FBANC) is looking for volunteers to provide help for health care workers and first responders in completing statutory wills, statutory powers of attorney (for property) and health care directives. Volunteers will be trained and an attorney with expertise in this area of law will be available to help with questions that you cannot answer. Please email Mari Bandoma Callado at maribandoma@fbanc.org for more information and to volunteer.

CCSLS is a private, non-profit agency that provides free legal services to seniors 60 years of age and older. Its services cover civil legal matters such as housing, income maintenance, elder abuse, and consumer protection.

CCSLS seeks to provide the broadest possible access to its services in order to resolve legal problems that adversely affect basic needs associated with advancing age. They give priority to cases in those areas of law particularly relevant to the needs of the elderly and not otherwise addressed by other legal services programs.

CCSLS currently serves approximately 1,000 seniors per year with direct legal services, and an additional 600 through our outreach and educational programs.

Social Justice Collaborative (SJC)

SJC is looking for attorneys for their Unaccompanied Minor Pro Bono Program, which seeks to increase representation of minors who are fleeing violence or other harm in their home countries. SJC seeks a diverse range of attorneys from solo to mid-size practitioners, as well as large firm counsel who want to support a vulnerable minor going through removal proceedings. Removal is an administrative adversarial process whereby the US government is actively seeking to remove a minor from the United States. The assistance of a pro bono attorney will dramatically affect each minor for the rest of their lives in the United States and potentially help family members as well.
