Commitment to Diversity

Commitment to Diversity - put at top of page

CCCBA’s commitment to advancing the needs of our diverse community is reflected by the launch of the Diversity Committee in 2002.

We’d like to acknowledge the founding members of the Diversity Committee: Dick Frankel, Larry Cook, Lisa Roberts & Robin Pearson.

The Diversity Committee supports the Minority Bar Coalition and organizes local diversity mixers and other events. The committee also promotes and participates in the Bay Area Minority Summer Clerkship Program.

The CCCBA received a joint award (along with the Alameda, Santa Clara and San Francisco Bar Associations) from the State Bar of California for the implementation of this long-running program. Within the broader Contra Costa community, the committee has helped to organize the Color of Justice program at the Contra Costa Superior Court and recruit legal professionals to volunteer at local high school law academies.

In 2019, CCCBA received an ABA Partnership Award for its innovative Diversity Award Checklist. See below for more information about this year’s Diversity Award checklist.

Will you accept the 21 Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge from the CCCBA?

This August, join your fellow bar members to become more aware, compassionate, constructive, engaged people in the quest for racial equity. This challenge was conceived several years ago by diversity expert Eddie Moore Jr. to advance deeper understanding of the intersections of race, power, privilege, supremacy and oppression. If you’re ready to accept, please contact Jody Iorns. Learn more about the 21 Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge.

Diversity Award

The Diversity Committee introduced a Diversity Award Checklist in 2017 and presented its first set of awards in 2018. These extensive checklists recognize the diversity efforts of law firms ranging from sole practitioners to firms with more than 20 attorneys.

The 2022 Diversity Checklists are available now. Complete and return one for your firm by December 2, 2022. Awards will be presented at the CCCBA Installation Lunch the following January.
