The State Bar of California Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP)

Senate Bill 479 (Burton) created LAP to expand State Bar aid to attorneys with substance abuse or mental health problems.

The mission of LAP is to enhance public protection, maintain the integrity of the legal profession, and support recovering attorneys in their rehabilitation and competent practice of law.

The Other Bar

The Other Bar is a network of recovering lawyers and judges throughout the state, dedicated to assisting others within the profession who are suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems.

The Other Bar is a private, non-profit corporation, and is founded on the principle of anonymity and strict confidentiality. The program is voluntary and open to all California lawyers, judges and law students.
